Jo Rae Johnson

There are many factors that affect the outcome of a portrait - composition, lighting, focus, posing and the finished method of developing the images all greatly influence the look of the subject as well as the overall feel of the photo. My recent portrait session with Jo Rae Johnson was one such example. Her vibrant personality and willingness to pose through several stages of light - sun, sunset, and moonlight made for a diverse shoot.

Being in front of the camera is not a new experience for Jo Rae. She is a published author and has appeared on local television and radio programs. Her nationally published articles and books promote her love of God, family and home. Jo Rae's goal is to inspire women to use their God-given talents to create a sanctuary where they live. Deputy Jamie Turner

Once again I had the opportunity to work with Dan Harvell Photography and Graphics assisting him on a shoot with the beautiful Jamie Turner. This session was a bit different than our last as this time she traded her high heels and silk blouse for a gun, badge and blue lights. You see Jamie isn't just another pretty face, she is a successful Sheriff's Deputy for a local law enforcement agency. I enjoyed talking with her about some of her work experiences, particularly how she utilizes her pink handcuffs for those "bad" guys that are especially uncooperative.

Women have worked in law enforcement since the 19th century but were mostly relegated to clerical roles. Civil rights and affirmative action laws opened doors for women to assume law enforcement jobs traditionally held by men. Currently, women hold an estimated 12 percent of all law enforcement jobs. Today's police procedures require a greater aptitude for "intelligence, communication, compassion, and diplomacy," making women strong candidates for law enforcement.

Our late night shoot was accomplished with off camera lighting, blue and red filters and smoke bombs - a fun way to spend an evening!

SC Republican Party Upstate VICTORY Kickoff

My photography career has afforded me some great opportunities in the past two years. One most recent opportunity was being hired to photograph the South Carolina Republican Party Upstate VICTORY kickoff. The event was held on August 20, 2012 at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was an exciting evening attended by Republican Party supporters from all over the state, as well as many local and state politicians including SCGOP Chairman Chad Connelly. Attendees enjoyed a southern BBQ dinner catered by Stax Billy D's. The keynote speaker for the event was Former Senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum. His common sense, conservative message brought supporters to their feet throughout the evening. He is committed to promoting faith, family, freedom and opportunity - the same principles our great nation was founded on. Special thanks to my friend and fellow photographer Kathy Duncan for assisting me with this event and to Dan Harvell for the job referral.
